This design was inspired by the beauty of the Hawaiian Quilt. 

Early missionaries taught quilting to Hawaiian women, who adopted, then adapted the introduced art into a uniquely Hawaiian form.

These quilts were displayed in the Honolulu Museum of Art

ranging from the late 19th or early 20th century.
